It happens to us all. There comes a time when we all need a littler more help and inspiration finding the time to create. Whether its from lack of time or motivation, kind of the same thing, it can be tough but I’m here to show you 5 tricks to help get your back on track.
The first thing I like to do is to get into the right mindset. What does crafting do for you? Does it help you relax and unwind? Does it make you feel accomplished?
A lot of times simply thinking of your desired outcome will help you get into the mood. Believe me, we are all busy, but you are totally worth 5 minutes. Turn on your favorite song or show, grab your supplies, and give yourself 5 minutes of “me time.”
Now that our mindset is right, some of us may still struggle with inspiration. We are in our crafty zone, we want to create, we have even set aside some special time away from the family. We are all ready to go….BUT….we still don’t know exactly where we are going.
Sometimes it’s hard to motivate ourselves. We want to do it, but we need a little extra help to actually pick it up and get going. This is when I call in my crafty support group (CSG.) It’s like therapy but WAY better.
My CSG includes my in person creative friends as well as my favorite virtual creatives. That’s right people I don’t even “know!” A CSG is simply a group that inspire you to great creative. Crafting is always better with friends, am I right?! So whether your creativity comes from watching your favorite YouTubers or grabbing your BFF, creating together is more motivating than creating alone.
Find the time to incorporate monthly craft nights with your friends. Finding the time to create together gives us a sense of kinship and support, boosting our self-esteem. I promise you will love your new monthly night with the gals! You deserve it.

Crafting doesn’t always have to be social though. Sometimes it can be a time to unwind and relax. So now, I am also going to include my tried and true personal favorite ways for staying motivated and inspired on your own.
Crafting is a two fold event. The first part of it includes planning out your project and having an idea of what you want to create. The second part is the actual execution.
Let’s start with the first fold, planning. My favorite places to plan my projects out include Pinterest and sketchbooks (yes I am super old school and these still do exist!)
Pinterest can be a gold mine for saving various techniques, projects that you would like to duplicate, and even some new ideas you would like to try. Sometimes even just browsing Pinterest gets me super motivated to create. If it doesn’t inspire me to create immediately then I can always save the pin for a rainy day….just make sure to put that rainy day on your calendar so you actually create!
Feel free to check out my Pinterest board here. It’s filled with all sorts of techniques, tips, and project inspiration.
Another great technique includes keeping a shopping list while you are shopping. If you are anything like me then you love to shop! It’s so much fun thinking of all the great projects you are going to create with all that fun new product.
Then, all too often, when we get home we stash those products in our studio never to be seen or heard from again. Anyone else??
Remember creating is a 2 fold process, the first one is planning and the 2nd one is execution. These often have a little bit of time in between them, so it’s important to make sure to follow through.
A tip I learned to help get me to that second fold is to make a project list while I am shopping. This is very similar to keeping projects on Pinterest, except here you are actually planning the projects with the products that you have on hand.
I even take this a step further and sketch out the projects that I would like to make. This way when I get ready to sit down and create I can pull out my sketch book and pick a project. The inspiration is right in front of me, the products are ready to go, and I am ready to create.
See how we line everything right up like dominoes.
Finally and the most important tip to remember is that it only takes 5 minutes. Chalk Couture makes the process SO completely simple that you honestly can’t mess it up. We offer a number of reusable products including our transfers that get up to 12 uses AND multi-use surfaces in a variety of sizes, but with our professional silk screen process the design will be perfect every time. There is no need to worry about wasting all that time and money on a project that didn’t turn out. With Chalk Couture you simply grab some what wash everything off and start again, until you achieve the results you want.
