Chalk Couture offers 5 different sized transfers ranging from A (5”x7”) to E (18”x24”) with the smaller ones being the most common. However, we are here today to see that those larger transfers are just as easy to work with as those smaller ones. I will even share a few of my favorite tips and techniques with you to make sure that you get that perfect design, without the fear of “messing up.”
Here take a look at how I took an E sized transfer and used it for the background on my tiered tray! Isn’t that such a lovely design.

Here is a closer view of that beautiful floral print.
My number one trick to working with these larger transfers is to cute them down to size. Most of my projects are closer to a B size (8.5”x11”) so when I can I cut those larger transfers into 2- 4 equal sections it still fits my surface and becomes much easier to work with.
Now, don’t go getting all sentimental on me here before you hear me out. If you LOVE a design, but are not ever going to use it because let’s be real 18”x24” is a pretty big display, then why not make it you-friendly?! Since a lot of these background transfers have repeating patterns it’s easy to cut them down without missing a beat (like in today’s video below.)

Whatever method you choose make sure that it fits in with your crafty style so that it’s not an obstacle to use them. There is no right or wrong way to create…..just your way!

Another really great tip that I have learned over the years is to take those larger transfers and stick them right into the bathtub to wash them. Our paste is completely water soluble and the bathtub is the perfect spot to lay that transfer out and clean it off.
Pro Tip: Still only use a little bit of water, we don’t want to drown the adhesive.

My last tip to working with these larger transfers is storing them. We have invested in them, used them (even if they are cut apart), and washed them properly…now it’s time to store them correctly.
There is a little bit of debate in Chalk Couture land about how to store larger transfers. Most smaller ones fit right into a 3 ring binder for easy storage, but anything larger than a B size would need another solution, or a scrapbook ;) But 18”x24” is still too larger for a 12”x12” album, so how do you store these ones??

Well some store them in drawers so that they lay flat. This is a great idea, if your drawer is big enough. Others choose to hang them with clip hangers or command hooks. Sometimes I am caught doing this, however I noticed that the corners tend to fold in if not hanging correctly. I personally prefer to store them laying flat in our carrying case which is almost like an art portfolio. It’s harder to see the ones you have (honestly I only have like 3 still whole) but they are well taken care of, flat, and tucked away.
