Tic-tac-toe, give me an 'X', give me an 'O'. Love isn't a game, but I created one with this sassy, cut-apart Chalk Transfer design! The DIY potential is making our hearts flutter!!
Isn’t that such a cute project??! And the best part of the whole thing is that it’s SUPER simple to create using a few Chalk Couture paste colors and 1 lovely transfer.
I created a fun video showing off just how easy it is to make. Here take a look, it took less than 20 minutes with dry time!! No worries though, I condensed the video into 3 minutes ;) I hope you enjoy it.
Isn’t my little model SO cute?? We actually have already spent HOURS playing this game. It’s SO much fun and the kids love it. Plus it was super easy to make so I can’t even complain!
For this project I actually ended up using this fun wooden XOXO kit (that happens to also be on SALE!!)
XOXO Kit $24.00
I ordered before this awesome kit came out, so I just ended up using some paste from my stash. I used shimmer melon, slate rose, and shimmer orchid. The fun thing about Chalk Couture is that you can use whatever colors you have on hand.
Shimmer Orchid is actually retired, but shimmer plum is a really cute purple if you need one.
For the base of this project I decided to use our 9”x12” Wooden Box Frame. These are one of my favorite surfaces and are even double sided!!
When painting a wooden surface with our paste I always grab a color tray and water the paste down a little bit. This helps to ensure that the background color is applied nice and smooth. The video does a great job at showing how I paste the backgrounds.
After the background dries I apply a thin layer of surface wax. I consider transfers to be my investment and always try to protect them. The surface wax protects transfers from the raw surface and create a smoother surface for the paste.
Here’s a picture of the finished product. I went back through at the end and just covered some “messy” spots with the slate rose. Once it all dried you couldn’t even tell <3
And seriously the kids can’t stop playing. My 4 year old LOVES it and asks everyone to play with him. The kids even got it out the other day at their play date. It’s so easy, quick, and fun for them to play.
